Revilo Model Cars is proud to present a stunning, museum-quality 1:8 scale scratch-built masterpiece by the legendary British artisan model maker Javan Smith. This exquisite kerbside replica captures the iconic Ferrari Tipo 500 F2, the car that absolutely dominated the international racing scene and propelled Alberto Ascari to his first World Drivers’ Championship. Being the only Italian Grand Prix World Champion racing in a Ferrari. This still stands today nearly 75 years later. This is a real piece of Italian and Ferrari racing history

Numbered 87 of 100, this represents an incredibly rare opportunity to acquire a late-production example from the final phase of this highly sought-after edition. Because Javan Smith rarely completed the full projected run numbers for his bespoke projects, late-edition pieces like No. 87 are exceptionally rare on the global collector market.

1952 Alberto Ascari Ferrari 500 F2. The Italian Ascari is still the last Italian to win the World Championship for Ferrari, nearly 75 years ago! 
In 1952 F1 allowed F2 cars to race as well to allow more competition. Ascari won all but two races took pole position in all but three races and took the fastest lap in every race he won. Winning the Belgian, French, British, German, Dutch and Italian Grand Prix.

Made around the year 2000, this one previous owner from new model is a superb artisan craftsman made, scratch built model, unsually credited to Javan Smith but made by his son Brendan (signed on the bottom of the base) who Javan trained to become a superb master model maker in his own right . This is a really beautiful model, highly detailed with fabulous cockpit, suspension and brake/wheel detailing, sitting on its original turned alluminium base with plaque detailing the model and limited edition number 87/100 (Though it is unlikley 100 were ever made). The model will be supplied with the original Ferrari etched Perspex display cover.

An superb, highly desirable, rare and interesting handbuilt model that would grace any model collection. One previous owner from new, in excellent condition. The model measures approx. 45cms and 62cms including the base.

Historical Context & Configuration

This specific model features a fascinating dual-tribute configuration that appeals directly to motorsport historians and discerning collectors alike:

• The Bodywork (1952 Early-Spec): The model is beautifully crafted with the unmistakable quadruple short stub-exhaust pipes exiting directly out of the sides of the bonnet, perfectly matching the original engineering layout of Scuderia Ferrari’s dominant 1952 campaign.

• The Racing Number (#5): While Grand Prix race numbers changed from track to track in the 1950s, this car features the race number #5. This configuration perfectly mirrors Ascari’s victorious, pole-sitting, and dominant drive at the prestigious 1952 Grand Prix de Marseille (held at Parc Borély on April 27, 1952).

• The Chassis Tribute: Beyond the Marseille victory, Javan Smith intentionally emblazoned a portion of this short-pipe run with the number 5 to honour Ferrari Chassis #0005—the actual physical factory single-seater heavily documented by historians as the legendary vehicle Ascari piloted to secure his historic 1952 world title.

Hand-built to an incredibly high standard, the model features a beautifully weighted resin body with crisp panel lines, realistic paint depth, and a beautifully tailored corduroy-trimmed racing bucket seat. The hallmark of a true Javan Smith piece is the breathtaking, hand-laced wire wheels that perfectly replicate the intricate Borrani spokes of the period.

The model sits perfectly anchored on its original presentation base featuring a turned-aluminum identification plaque. Crucially, this piece remains complete with its original, factory-etched Ferrari plexiglass display cover, providing optimal protection and a commanding presence in any high-end automotive collection or boardroom.
